Abstract Digital Twin (DT) technology, originally developed by NASA, has revolutionized industries by enabling real-time digital replicas of physical systems to enhance efficiency, sustainability, and decision-making. This systematic literature review examines the readiness and potential of DT implementation in the apparel industry, particularly in developing economies. While DT technology has been transformative in manufacturing, healthcare, and smart cities, its adoption in apparel manufacturing remains limited due to challenges like inadequate infrastructure, high implementation costs, and workforce skill gaps. This study identifies key readiness factors - technological infrastructure, financial investment, organizational support, and external collaboration that influence DT adoption. Leveraging the PRISMA framework, 34 high-quality articles were analyzed to explore barriers and strategies for DT integration in apparel, emphasizing its capacity to drive Industry 4.0 advancements. Findings highlight the need for IoT integration, workforce upskilling, and government incentives to overcome readiness gaps. The review concludes that addressing these challenges can unlock DT's potential to revolutionize apparel manufacturing by enabling predictive maintenance, supply chain visibility, and sustainable practices. This research contributes a roadmap for the digital transformation of the apparel industry, supporting its competitiveness in a rapidly evolving global marketplace. © 2025 IEEE.
