| Abstract | The rapid pace of urbanization has led to the emergence of smart cities as a viable solution to address the challenges posed by increasing urban populations. This chapter explores the diverse array of tools and techniques that contribute to the development and sustenance of smart city and urbanization systems. Data-driven decision-making forms the cornerstone, where advanced sensors and Internet of Things (IoT) devices collect and transmit real-time data on urban infrastructure, transportation networks, energy consumption and environmental conditions. Efficient transportation systems are integral to smart cities, and intelligent traffic management tools, such as predictive traffic modelling, adaptive traffic signals, and autonomous vehicles, streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion and minimize environmental impact. Additionally, waste management is revolutionized by smart waste bins equipped with sensors that optimize collection routes, reduce operational costs and promote sustainability. Urban safety and security are enhanced through advanced surveillance systems, leveraging video analytics and facial recognition to detect and respond to potential threats. In conclusion, the tools and techniques explored in this abstract underline the multifaceted nature of smart city and urbanization systems.
