Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly expanded in smart cities, presenting new opportunities for urban improvement. However, the connected nature of IoT devices also brings lots of security challenges, leaving them vulnerable to cyberattacks and data breaches. Due to the complex nature of these devices, a comprehensive platform to tackle the security threat is a real need. This article investigates the most common security challenges and proposes a solution to address them using ServiceNow Vulnerability Response framework, by integrating with Blockchain and AI technology. The proposed framework aims to enhance security measures and mitigate potential risks specifically in smart cities domain. The detection, evaluation and response of these threats is in near real-time, which provides a comprehensive roadmap for addressing even the new security challenges of new types of IoT devices and network topologies. Through integration with ServiceN ow (a software as a service platform), the aim of this study is to revolutionize IoT security in smart cities in a way that not only it provides solution to existing challenges but also cover possible future challenges, that is the reason Blockchain and artificial intelligence is combined with ServiceNow's Vulnerability Response Applications. In this innovative approach, different applications are integrated in a systematical way to provide strong mechanism against cyber threats. In addition, there is real-time monitoring and automated response to potential threats built into the framework. Integrating applications, into a cohesive framework enhances smart cities security by providing protection against online threats in near real time detection and response to security risks through automated tasks for better threat handling is paramount in safeguarding IoT devices and networks in smart cities. This approach greatly enhancing the security of these systems by leveraging blockchain and AI technologies in conjunction, with the ServiceNow Vulnerability Response platform organizations can promptly identify and resolve vulnerabilities as they arise improving both the security and scalability of their environments. The smooth integrated communication of blockchain and AI enhances not the identification of threats. Also streamlines the response tasks to provide a thorough solution, for protecting IoT networks in intelligent urban areas. © 2024 IEEE.
