Abstract Smart parking can be used as a component of smart cities or practically in any kind of city. It aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of urban transportation systems by using technology to manage parking resources. This article provides an overview of the different components of smart parking systems. We talk about different sensors, data analysis, occupancy detection, and dynamic pricing used in smart parking systems. This work demonstrates the challenges and opportunities of implementing smart parking in different cities. Additionally, the paper provides the flow of data within these systems. The article concludes with a consideration of the future of smart parking and its role in the overall development of smart cities. © 2023 IEEE.
