Abstract Parking is a cause of concern due to its impact on the environment, ranging from pollution to congestion. In order to aid in the reduction of these issues, substantial research is required. Smart parking for smart cities is one approach, which utilises available technology to recommend parking spaces to drivers. This includes the use of novelties such as Internet of Things, sensors and cameras. Fog computing is a model which positions resources specified locations between source and cloud. Fog computing is a suitable paradigm; however, adequate attention has not been given to the approach. The research will focus on investigating and proposing a smart parking solution using fog computing, which will provide insights on existing solutions as well as smart cities and their current positions. © 2020 ACM.
