Abstract Electric vehicles market share is increasing rapidly. This trend has resulted in a huge demand for residential and commercial renewable energy powered charging stations for electric vehicles. The stations that have been installed can be integrated into a smart city environment to boost station usage, save energy and money, and improve community quality of life. In this paper, we propose IoT based renewable energy sources powered station for electric vehicles charging which uses EEBUS based communication model. The proposed architecture and communication model aim to standardize the integration of stations into smart city concept. In this way, the interoperability challenges would be considerably decreased and the integration process would be easier, cheaper and faster. © 2024 IEEE.
