Abstract	The aim of this article is to consider ecological issue in the Russian Federation as well as worldwide and to identify key ways to optimize relations between human activity and environment. The study examined such concepts as "smart city", "digitalization", "ecological consciousness". An analysis of the relationship between systems of obtaining and subsequent dissemination of information necessary for solving the environmental issue was carried out with a view of comprehensive analysis and control of the city environment. The main hypotheses, confirmed subsequently by the results of the sociological survey, were put forward. On the basis of those hypotheses conclusions on the need to introduce digitalization systems into the daily life of citizens were made. © 2020 ACM.
