Abstract This article presents an overview of security considerations in the context of smart cities, highlighting key areas of connectivity of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in a smart city, vulnerabilities, and strategies for risk mitigation. It explores possible vulnerabilities associated with interconnected IoT devices, the potential impact of cyberattacks on essential services, and the importance of implementing robust security measures to mitigate risks. The paper is organized as follows: the devices of a smart intersection and possible attacks on them are presented in Section II and Section III, respectively. Section IV presents security measures which can be incorporated to eliminate or to decrease the risks associated with the attacks from Section III. Finally, Section IV concludes the paper. © 2024 IEEE.
