Abstract Smart cities are a mixture of using different Internet of Things (IoT) devices and artificial intelligence techniques to develop a better environment for living. The paper's primary focus is on the various aspects of smart city infrastructure, and the threats surrounding it. We also discuss the vulnerabilities that cause the threats and the recommended solutions for these problems. We outline our proposed approach not to let these threats violate the infrastructure layout of smart cities. A breakdown of every smart city aspect alongside its threats, vulnerability, and solutions is described in the paper. Smart grid, smart transportation, smart healthcare, and smart buildings are the four main aspects of a smart city, whose details are presented in the paper keeping an information security perspective in mind. © 2023 American Institute of Physics Inc..
