Abstract The focus of this study is on the integration and deployment of IoT-enabled WSN for environmental monitoring in cities. This process is associated with an assessment of efficiency irrigated by networks in collecting, transferring and analysing environmental data, meant for urban sustainability practices. The approach includes a broad overview of the available IoT and WSN technologies today, which also highlights their implementations in various smart city projects across the globe. Therefore, the predicted results seek to prove that IoT and WSN could help improve the precision and effectiveness of environmental monitoring for better informed urban planning and management. This research outlines technological progress that has been made in IoT, WSN and the role they play regarding promoting environmental sustainability due to urbanization. © 2025 IEEE.
