Abstract Due to a rapid increase in technologies and smart devices, our way of living and working is becoming easy and fascinating day by day. Various emerging technologies have been invented in various sectors by keeping in mind the factors such as ease of access, accuracy, safety, and a lot more. One of the latest is IoT: Internet of Things. IoT is basically the interconnection of various physical devices with the help of the internet for sharing data or resources. IoT is gaining popularity because of its advantages in various sectors such as industry automation, healthcare, smart homes, smart cities, agriculture, etc. With the help of IoT, various health monitoring devices and techniques have been invented that can allow a patient to be in touch with a doctor every time and their body’s reading such as BP, hemoglobin, heart rate, stress rate, etc. can be recorded automatically after a fixed interval. Smartwatches, wigs, glasses, and gloves are a few examples of smart wearables. Smart contact lenses capture and process the data with the blink of one’s eye. Apart from this, it can monitor the blood glucose level for diabetic patients with the help of tears in the eye. Because of IoT, one manage the patient’s information of their body readings, bed availability, doctor availability, medicine availabilities, and a lot. Moreover, the only limitation of IoT is overcome by BIoT i.e., blockchain IoT. In this chapter, we will cover the basics of IoT in healthcare, examples of various wearables invented using IoT in healthcare, the various healthcare areas where IoT is gaining popularity, and the research work that has been done in healthcare using IoT along with their comparisons. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Luxmi Sapra, Varun Sapra and Akashdeep Bhardwaj.
