Abstract Evolving IT sector includes Internet of Things as one of the fast-growing technologies which have covered all the fields like wearables, smart home appliances, smart cities, healthcare industry, agricultural domain, telecommunication, and industrial automation. Objective This research focuses on the IoT in the medical domain where it increases the reliability, accuracy, and productivity of medical devices by interconnecting them through the network. Results and discussion The patient is closely monitored, and records are transferred to doctors to know the condition of patients through cloud services. A cross-sectional literature review is done to know all the aspects used. As every technology come with merits and demerits; hence, some of the challenges faced by the users of IoMT are also mentioned closely. The basic structure of IoMT with its components and layers is explained, benefits, advantages, and key devices are also shown in this paper. © 2025 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
