Abstract The world population has steadily increased in recent years, and society has evolved significantly. The idea of smart cities has grown in acceptance over time. This appeal stems from various factors, including their ability to give humans makeshift living conditions while also assisting in environmental preservation. Communication technology advancements have become a broadly recognized tendency, and they are likely to play a critical role in providing connections in smart cities. Such technologies help in better growth and well-organized governance of smart cities. Headways in crossbreed correspondence advancements have empowered smart urban communities to associate with one another while ensuring network availability. This chapter will examine the empowering correspondence and systems administration advancements utilized in smart urban communities. It likewise remembers some study work that gathers a review for the various attributes of savvy urban communities that have been thoroughly examined till now. This novel impact discusses the difficulties and approaches of several innovations used to create amazing urban communities. Some genuine applications from the intelligent vehicle framework (ITS) to food analysts have started the executives. The requirement for ITS has resulted in several difficulties, ranging from severe traffic congestion to road maintenance. It has been recognized that combining better transportation infrastructure with cutting-edge digital technology may strengthen the connectivity among automobiles, road networks, and people. The ultimate goal of this approach is to build a more resource-rich, secure, acceptable, and intelligent management and governance system than current systems. Smart cities are becoming a viable option to make transportation systems more sophisticated and eco-friendly. The core of smart cities is a mutual, dependable infrastructures layer. This chapter introduces the essential ideas of this field, focusing on the function of communication technologies in smart cities. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Vinod Kumar Shukla, Piyush Maheshwari, Purushottam Sharma and Sonali Vyas.
