Abstract Smart Cities are dynamic centres where residents’ lives are enhanced, sustainability is promoted, and resource allocation is streamlined by the amalgamation of technology. In order to transform applications for urban environments, this study investigates the synergistic integration of three critical technologies: Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT). AI is essential to the development of cities because it makes automation, predictive analytics, and well-informed decision-making possible. Cities can improve safety protocols, energy saving, and traffic flow with AI-driven systems. Furthermore, AI-driven chatbots and virtual assistants enhance citizens’ urban experiences by providing them with seamless support. Blockchain technology provides a transparent foundation for smart city applications. It guarantees data authenticity and integrity, which are necessary for preserving ecosystem trust. Blockchain-based solutions can be utilized for identity management, the tracking of supply chains, and efficient property registration, all of which contribute to accountability while reducing instances of fraud in urban governance. The IoT offers real-time data collection and insights through its network of interconnected sensors and devices. Smart cities leverage capabilities to monitor air quality levels, manage waste disposal systems, as well as optimize utility services. Cities can enhance the security and efficiency of processing amounts of IoT data streams by integrating AI and Blockchain. This integration enables decision-making that is based on data-driven insights. Currently, 63% of India’s GDP is produced by the 31% of the population that lives in urban areas (Census 2011). By 2050, over 40% of India’s population is predicted to reside in cities, which will produce 75% of the country’s GDP. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Smita Sharma, Manikandan Tirumalaisamy, Balamurugan Balusamy, Naveen Chilamkurti; individual chapters, the contributors.
