Abstract With the combination of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) and Internet of Things (IoT), the field of data acquisition and communication has been transformed in most of the areas including smart city and industrial use. However, such systems are relatively insecure especially concerning the integrity of data, as well as identity authentication. This paper aims to investigate how blockchain technology cab strengthen WSN-IoT systems by offering distributed and secure mechanisms. Considering the pros and cons of applying existing approaches, we present a conceptual framework based on blockchain, which enhances data security and provides reliable ways of user identification. As the research suggests, there are enhanced aspects of security from the identified threats, and a decreased number of open entrance for invasions, coupled with higher veracity of data in various IoT applications. Different parameters are used in order to analyze the performance of the proposed framework in real-time environments. © 2024 IEEE.
