Abstract Detailed instructions on how to create an integrated Internet of Things (IoT)-Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) framework for smart city applications are provided in this chapter. With the objectives of ensuring both security and scalability, the framework architecture was built to gather, aggregate, and analyze data from sensors using communication protocols. Smart city applications span a wide range of use cases, such as assuring public safety, controlling traffic, waste management, energy use and environmental impact, and keeping an eye on the weather. Each of these use cases has particular requirements for data. As a result, defining data needs and identifying use cases are two of the most crucial steps in the design process. Making decisions about the sensors that will be used to collect data, the communication protocols that will be used to send that data, and the relationship between the system and the cloud are also key to the design process. The creation of a cloud infrastructure and a data processing system are steps that are essential in constructing the framework. These procedures help to guarantee the system’s scalability and security. The most significant themes are summarized in chapter’s conclusion, which also discusses possible directions for further research. If one uses the approach outlined in this chapter, it is possible to create an IoT-WSN framework that is scalable, secure, and usable for applications related to smart cities. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Shalli Rani and Ashu Taneja; individual chapters, the contributors.
