Abstract Urbanization, which is mostly unplanned and sprawling in growth, is a global phenomenon. The digital revolution based on information and communication technology is leading to smarter urban solutions to achieve the long-term goal of sustainable urban areas. Both new and existing cities are implementing the concept of a smart city to become more sustainable, livable, resilient, and smarter. Many local governments want to enhance the quality of experience as well as the quality of life for their residents through the use of smart urban technologies. However, the concept of a smart city is still unclear with limited conceptual frameworks to assist cities to understand this emerging urban development paradigm. This chapter aims to improve understanding of making a smart city in the existing Bandung City in Indonesia. It focuses on the concept, features, challenges, and opportunities. The city is following the six smart city dimensions from Citiasia Center for Smart Nation of smart governance, smart economy, smart living, smart society, smart environment, and smart branding with three main aims: to control, to connect, and to observe. The chapter also highlights features of Bandung Smart City such as Bandung Command Center, Community Online Complaint and Aspiration Service, Single Number Emergency Call 112, and Bandung Panic Button and Bandung Planning Gallery, followed by a discussion on the challenges and opportunities of the smart city. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
