Abstract This paper explores the integration of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) into smart city lighting systems, emphasizing the transformative potential and challenges associated with this technology. WSN technology enhances urban lighting infrastructures by improving energy efficiency, enhancing safety through adaptive lighting, and contributing to the aesthetic enhancement of cityscapes. The study delves into practical implementations of WSN in urban lighting, supported by case studies and data analysis, highlighting the significant reductions in energy consumption and improvements in operational efficiency. Furthermore, the paper discusses the challenges faced during implementation, such as scalability, energy management, data security, and integration with existing urban infrastructure. Solutions to these challenges are explored through innovative technological adaptations and strategic planning. The paper concludes with a look at future trends, emphasizing the role of artificial intelligence and sustainable practices in advancing WSN applications in smart cities. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
