Abstract This work reviews the design of an optimized street lighting system aimed at reducing energy consumption. Traditional street light systems often use power by lighting all lights and operating continuously, even during low-traffic hours. This work addresses the issue and conserves energy by utilizing RF communication for wireless control, motion sensors to detect activity, and a real-time clock (RTC) to schedule lighting. All the street lights are turned on simultaneously during peak hours and switch to sequential activation during low-traffic periods and motion-based activation if required, thereby saving energy utilization and cost. A mobile app with a graphical user interface (GUI) allows users to control lighting patterns, such as odd-even configurations, and monitor their status in realtime. By eliminating extensive wiring, improving efficiency, and supporting sustainability, this work provides a cost-effective and scalable solution, especially for smart city projects. © 2025 IEEE.
