Abstract This paper presents an innovative urban infrastructure solution by embedding environmental sensors in Arduino-based smart streetlights. These luminaires, equipped with Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs) and motion sensors, offer adaptive lighting for safety and energy efficiency. The integrated environmental sensor measures air quality, noise levels, and humidity, transforming streetlights into data collection nodes for comprehensive environmental monitoring. Real-time data transmission to a central server establishes a distributed network across the city. This dual-functionality approach not only enhances energy efficiency through adaptive lighting but also provides valuable insights for informed decision-making in urban development, pollution mitigation, and resource allocation. The project aligns with smart city development principles, contributing to sustainability and efficiency in urban ecosystems. © 2024 IEEE.
