Abstract When the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence came together, it gave birth to an array of applications across all walks of life. It led to a massive scope for advancement of applications to assist humans in everyday life. The developments in the healthcare and smart cities sectors have created the greatest ripple. The workings of Artificial Intelligence of Things and data processing in the technology are explored in depth in this review. The influence of technological improvements on various industries is also highlighted. It classifies the various healthcare components like sensors and patches and evaluates the data collected through them. Current trends, its use case and applications in different sectors, have been extensively documented. This paper also includes insights on how healthcare and smart cities may be combined to build smart health cities, as well as their potential in today's world. The varying components, their technologies, and the functions they play in smart health cities have also been tabulated. Although there is a huge upside in the implementation of smart health cities, it faces numerous challenges in its execution. This paper remarks such challenges that would need to be overcome in the future for the success of this technology. © 2023 Author(s).
