Abstract Water quality is a critical environmental and human health issue, so continuous monitoring is essential to detect unusual changes in water parameters. Water quality verification can be challenging in many countries with limited or non-existent monitoring capabilities. This proposal presents a low-cost, real-time telemetry system using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to monitor water parameters. An architecture that includes an Atmega328 microcontroller, pH, DO, and Temp sensors, a Wi-Fi network transceiver, and a web application for remote monitoring via the Internet is introduced. An early use case for water monitoring in a fish farm in El Salvador is deployed to evaluate the proposed IoT system. Preliminary field tests showed promising results, illustrating that the proposed approach can be an efficient and cost-effective tool. © 2024 IEEE.
