Abstract The rise in electronic waste recycling has become a critical global issue, prompting the need for a robust system to oversee and trace electronic devices and associated business transactions among stakeholders. Currently, centralized systems that oversee electronic devices in their supply chain lack essential features such as data transparency, immutability, and security. These shortcomings impede a thorough life cycle coverage, data security, the selection of stakeholders based on reputation, and the effective management of the extensive data generated throughout the supply chain stages. This paper introduces a blockchain-based IoT-driven solution tailored to monitor all post-production business activities, processes, and operations linked to electronic devices. The system relies on five intelligent contracts that meticulously record user actions on an unalterable distributed ledger, ensuring transparency, traceability, and security in participant-driven processes. To handle large files, such as images of e-waste materials, products, and stakeholder licenses, our system seamlessly integrates with a distributed storage framework. Stringent testing on the ethereal blockchain evaluates gas consumption for smart contract functions, and a thorough cost and security analysis confirms the practicality and viability of the proposed system. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
