Abstract Environmental sustainability is a paramount concern in the management of waste which requires a unique innovative solution. The global waste and resource crises necessitate and give great impetus for better and more sustainable management of waste. Increasingly, resource and waste streams that once were sent to landfill or incinerated are now reused, recycled, or recovered. Smart cities can prevent environmental issues brought on by inappropriate garbage disposal by lowering air pollution, safeguarding the aquatic ecology, and enhancing public health and secure data standards promises numerous benefits. This approach provides the suitability of blockchain technology in overcoming waste management problems. E-waste is the word used to describe these Electronic and Electrical Equipment (EEE) that consumers abandon. E-waste management involves collecting, sorting, and recycling old electronics in an environmentally responsible way. The unorganized sector still controls a substantial portion of India's e-waste collection and recycling industry, which makes it exceedingly challenging to implement such rules. In response to these challenges, an approach with blockchain technology and secure data standards has been developed to revolutionize the waste management method. A blockchain model is essential for waste management due to its ability to provide transparency, traceability, and decentralization. In traditional waste management systems, tracking the lifecycle of waste is often challenging, leading to inefficiencies and difficulties in monitoring its movement. Blockchain technology solves this problem by creating a transparent and immutable ledger, where every step in the waste management process is recorded. Moreover, by integrating secure data standards into the system, the proposed approach ensures that sensitive waste-related information is protected from unauthorized access and tampering using the DES (Data Encryption Standard Algorithm) and blockchain technology. © 2023 IEEE.
