Abstract The scientific research of controlled-environment agriculture (CEA) began primarily with the examinations of indoor agricultural technology and vertical farming, including technical and IT aspects, as well as food security questions. In this paper, we analyze the impact of vertical farming on smart cities and identify new areas for research based on the empirical experiences gained in the R&D vertical farm of Tungsram in Budapest. © 2022 IEEE.
