Abstract The smart city combines physical infrastructure to create mobility, add efficiencies, save energy, enhance air and water quality, recover from disasters, fix problems, data collection, data sharing, and effective resource deployment. Citizens are motivated in Egypt to be smart city’s residents, and the government should work on its citizens’ satisfaction and fulfill their needs when constructing and developing smart cities. This research aimed to investigate the factors that affect citizens choosing smart city life. The Sentiments were collected from 7,000 residents in 5 settlement compounds in New Cairo. Sentiments were collected, analyzed, and categorized into the following 10 groups: reducing traffic congestion, increasing people’s safety, reducing air pollution, reducing travel costs, advanced technology, parking availability, technical Facilities, Green landscape, reducing Noise pollution, and positive energy and relaxation. The results showed a positive attitude towards applying smart cities in Egypt. NB has the highest accuracy, 98%, SVM, 88%, and the decision tree, 71%. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
