Abstract Environmental degradation has prompted environmental bodies to take action to sustain resources. There is an increased focus on reducing energy consumption in infrastructural projects. The primary concern of the present research is the application of 5G in reducing energy consumption and transitioning towards smart cities. Stimuli and responses in various environments have shown a paradigm shift away from conventional approaches to increased interest in transitioning to smart city projects, particularly based on real-time data analysis. The proposed research data were extracted from Twitter, the frequency of attributes was generated, and consumer sentiment was analyzed regarding reduced energy consumption in smart city projects in the era of 5G. The filtered data from real-time data analysis was analyzed by modification of an algorithm in order to address any concerns of inconsistencies in the data. The data identifies and delineates consumer sentiment about energy consumption in smart city projects for comparative evaluation of positive and negative emotions. The results show a positive response to smart city projects. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Ambar Bajpai and Arun Balodi; individual chapters, the contributors.
