Abstract In contrast to Wi-Fi, Li-Fi (Light Fidelity), a new optical wireless communication technology, employs LED light to convey data more quickly and adaptable. Since light is present practically everywhere, communication may be done with ease. Li-Fi offers greater speed, improved security, and immunity to electromagnetic interference in contrast to Wi-Fi, which uses radio waves to transport data. This makes it the perfect choice for smart homes, smart cities, and industrial automation. By utilising the current LED infrastructure, Li-Fi-based automation makes it possible for devices, sensors, and controllers to communicate in real time. It guarantees safe, fast, and energy-efficient data communication, lowering energy usage and enhancing control over equipment such as traffic signals, lighting, and industrial systems. Li-Fi offers enormous potential in sectors like manufacturing, healthcare, and smart cities. But issues like infrastructural constraints and line-of-sight requirements still need to be resolved. Li-Fi presents a bright future for safe, effective, and scalable automation systems in spite of these obstacles. © 2025 IEEE.
