Abstract Augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are the new terminologies in the technical field. AR and VR technology has made a social impact in our lives. Li-Fi (light fidelity) is also a new terminology in the wireless communication field. We use Wi-Fi (wireless fidelity) for communicating with each other through radio signals. In Li-Fi we will use light to communicate with each other, sending or transferring data. In this chapter we discuss the impact of Li-Fi over Wi-Fi in the coming days and also how Li-Fi can use the features or the applications of AR/VR to make commutation faster and easier. Li-Fi has so many benefits compared to Wi-Fi, but it has some certain disadvantages too. To achieve a high data rate and meet the smart cities requirement, Li-Fi is the best solution. Li-Fi can accommodate a huge number of users that are needed to connect everything to the so-called Internet of things (IoT). Li-Fi consumes less energy compared to Wi-Fi and has a high-speed transmission rate. It is a bidirectional wireless system that transmits data via LED or infrared light. If the Li-Fi can be used in the field of AR/VR, then this will be a revolution in science and technology. We will see how this low-cost, broadcast, less harmful technology will take over Wi-Fi in near future. © 2024 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston.
