Abstract Successful implementation of a smart parking system can drastically reduce traffic congestion in parking areas. The government's top concern has become the rising rate of private automobile use in the nation. Nowadays, people prefer the contactless and quick method of payment, and here is the proposal for an automatic fare collection system without the involvement of manpower. This proposed system will reduce the time taken to generate a bill/ticket from 3-5 minutes to 5-15 seconds, leading to the quick movement of vehicles in the parking area. The camera used in the parking lot uses real-time detection of number plates and recognizes the registration number in the number plate through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. This paper aims on giving efficient and effective solutions to replace the traditional parking management system using unreliable sensors. © 2024 IEEE.
