Abstract	Smart homes, smart cities, smart grids, and smart vehicles are a few examples of the Internet of Things (IoT) applications. These applications possess distributed data delivery infrastructures for remote access, storage, distribution, and processing. As a result, the communication amongst such smart objects offers new horizons for applications to improve human well being. However, massive communication within such cyber-physical systems poses a wide variety of security challenges. These security malfunctions may disturb the entire applications/systems and lead to lethal consequences. Therefore, trust and security are major prerequisites in advanced IoT applications. To this end, there is a dire need to understand the key security challenges within smart IoT applications, such as e-health, agriculture, and energy sectors. Therefore, this paper provides and discusses major security challenges and requirements of smart IoT applications in order to enhance their security. © 2021 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.
