Abstract Smart cities rely on interconnected digital systems for essential services. These environments face security gaps that invite disruptive cyber threats. This chapter investigates key vulnerabilities in urban digital infrastructures and explains methods for analyzing malicious behavior. The purpose is to present layered strategies that protect sensor networks, communication protocols, and supervisory control systems. The author applies evidence- based methods to examine intrusion detection, infrastructure hardening, and data governance models. Empirical results reveal that anomalies in sensor traffic and unauthorized data flows are best addressed through proactive detection algorithms and decentralized oversight. These insights suggest stronger policies to guide data collection and usage. The chapter contributes an integrated framework combining cybersecurity practices, technical resilience, and responsible data management. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
