Abstract Digital technology drives smart cities, which promise urban progress and citizen well-being. However, the digital revolution is creating new and complex cybersecurity dangers. Smart cities need robust infrastructure to defend against shifting cyber threats, according to this research. We analyze the evolving threat environment and weaknesses to find key cyber resilience strategies. Successful case studies and best practices inform our urban cybersecurity strategy. Our study reveals that smart cities need proactive cybersecurity measures including network architecture, threat detection, and data management to survive. Smart city aspirations need strong infrastructure and effective cybersecurity. Our analysis shows the critical necessity to protect key assets, citizen data, and urban welfare in this fast-changing digital age. This chapter’s study of the cyber threat environment and focus on cyber resilience principles may aid urban planners, lawmakers, and cybersecurity specialists. Best practices and case studies demonstrate these strategies in practice. In an increasingly linked world, smart city development requires strong cybersecurity. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Thangavel Murugan and W.
