Abstract	The importance of power electronics, renewable energy, and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the creation and operation of smart cities (SCs) is examined in the chapter “Role & Applications of Power Electronics, Renewable Energy, and IoT in Smart Cities”. It highlights the necessity of effective energy management systems in smart cities, considering the importance of protecting the environment and the expanding demand for power. The chapter also emphasizes how power electronics, renewable energy, and IoT may work together to create smart cities. Further, it details how various technologies interact to build a more productive and sustainable urban ecology. The primary aim is to identify the challenges and barriers associated with integrating power electronics, renewable energy, and IoT in smart cities and discuss potential solutions. To demonstrate the effective use of these technologies and their beneficial effects on energy efficiency, decreased carbon emissions, and improved quality of life for inhabitants, examples of smart city projects and efforts from across the world are shown. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Binbing Yu and Kristine Broglio.
