Abstract The demand for multimedia data services is rising rapidly, and while 5G has been implemented globally, it won't sustain the projected mobile traffic growth. To address 5G's limitations, Sixth Generation (6G) communication has been proposed. Operating in the mm wave and terahertz regions, 6G will offer faster data rates, exceeding 100 GB/s, and a wide frequency range from 300 GHz to 3 THz. This study explores 6G's promising capabilities, including high-quality imaging, precise localization, and advanced sensing. 6G technology will heavily integrate machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), especially within smart cities, where they will be pivotal in improving citizens' quality of life. By combining diverse components for monitoring, analysis, planning, and execution, 6G-enabled applications will support advanced services that enhance urban living experiences, address environmental challenges, and provide more efficient solutions across industries. © 2025 IEEE.
