Abstract This article primarily examines the smart city multi-energy complementary system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology. In the context of accelerating urbanization, traditional energy supply methods face diversified and complex challenges. Therefore, the construction of smart cities has received widespread attention and exploration, and multi-energy complementary systems have become an effective means to achieve sustainable development of urban energy. The article first investigates and analyzes the energy conversion methods and information communication technology of smart city energy systems, establishing the basic architecture of the multi-energy complementary system. Mathematical models are then established to describe the interactive relationships between various energy nodes in the system, and energy allocation and utilization are optimized through objective functions and constraints. In addition, an evaluation system for smart city energy systems is proposed, including evaluation methods and indicators. This evaluation system comprehensively considers aspects such as economic feasibility, environmental friendliness, and reliability to assess the overall performance and level of sustainable development of the system, providing decision-making references and technical support for smart city construction. Finally, the article summarizes the research results and indicates the direction and challenges for further improving and promoting multi-energy complementary systems. We believe that through continuous innovation and practice, the smart city multi-energy complementary system based on IoT technology will make positive contributions to the sustainable development of urban energy. © 2023 ACM.
