Abstract Traditional parking systems often struggle with inefficient space usage, limited visibility, and unsatisfactory user experiences due to manual monitoring and lack of real-time status updates specially the underground parking spaces that are common in malls and theatres. We propose a system that addresses the limitations of traditional parking systems, emphasizing inefficient space utilization, limited visibility, and suboptimal user experiences. To tackle these challenges, it introduces an Intelligent Parking System employing Infrared (IR) sensors strategically positioned for precise real-time car detection. By leveraging a centralized processing unit, manual monitoring issues are resolved, enabling swift data analysis. The system's dynamic web interface offers users real-time parking status, historical data, and trends, mitigating uncertainties about spot availability. Integrating IR sensors, Raspberry Pi Pico W, and React JS methodologies, the IPS fosters a scalable design, accommodating additional sensors and presenting a holistic solution to contemporary parking dilemmas. This approach not only maximizes parking space utilization but also enhances urban mobility, promising a comprehensive and adaptive answer to modern parking challenges. We have researched a smart parking system using OpenCV as well. Our proposed system includes capturing and integrating the footage of parking spaces with an Object-Detection Algorithm using OpenCv' The real-time availability of the parking spaces can be displayed through our Web Page. © 2024 IEEE.
