Abstract In India, the concept of smart cities and Internet of Everything is taking shape with a faster pace, so the dependence on electrical energy is increasing day by day. Renewable energy is being adopted rapidly to overcome the power shortages and to meet the power demand of households, which are still not connected to the country’s electricity grid. If we consider India’s transmission & distribution losses, power theft, power equipment failure, payment default by consumers, the total average losses are still significantly high. The volatile electrical energy scenario, amid India’s growing electricity demand and efficiency can be optimized by adoption of new technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) in Indian distribution companies. When Energy is integrated with internet, then it is known as Energy Internet. This technology will help to collect real-time information of power production, distribution & transmission. Therefore, the energy world will make a transition towards decentralized, digitized and de-carbonized system for creating a smart transaction platform that gives rise to true ‘prosumers’. Such a system will be able to collect information of connections, metering and billing, management of equipment in case of maintenance, energy audit and customer services, etc. The benefits will be extended to utilities and grid operators, as they will be able to balance supply and demand in real-time by engaging these prosumers directly. © 2021 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
