Abstract A smart dustbin using IoT technology is a revolutionary solution for waste management that uses sensors to detect the level of garbage and send notifications when it is full. The system comprises a sensor placed inside the dustbin that measures the level of waste and forwards data to a cloud server for analysis. The cloud server then sends alerts to the user or concerned authorities via a text message. The smart dustbin helps in reducing the overflow of garbage, promoting cleanliness, and maintaining hygiene in public areas. It can be used in households, offices, public places, and hospitals to optimize the waste collection process and reduce the environmental impact caused by waste. The smart dustbin is an excellent addition to the smart home and smart city concept, providing a sustainable and efficient solution for waste management. Its real-time monitoring, notification alerts, and data analytic features can help in improving waste management operations and reducing the associated costs. In summary, the smart dustbin using IoT technology is an innovative solution that has the potential to revolutionize the waste management industry. Its features make it an efficient and sustainable solution for waste collection and can help in creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment. The main objective of the model is to receive notifications when the bin is 80% full. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
