Abstract In today’s modern world, with the advancement of technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning (ML), applications have become smarter and connected devices give rise to their exploitations in all aspects of a smarter city. Fast urbanization has achieved incredible difficulties to our everyday lives, for example, traffic clog, natural contamination, vitality utilization, and open security. Research on shrewd urban areas expects to address these issues with different advancements produced for the IoT. Recently, the examination center has moved toward handling of gigantic measure of information consistently created inside a city situation, e.g., physical and participatory detecting information on traffic flow, air quality, and human services. Procedures from computational insight have been applied to process and examine such information and to remove valuable information that assists residents with bettering comprehend their environment and educates city specialists to give better and increasingly effective open administrations. Artificial intelligence (AI) is relied upon to fundamentally bolster practical improvement of future brilliant urban areas. This chapter proposes various smart city applications and its challenges with the help of ML and IoT. Finally, various research challenges and opportunities are proposed for implementing the proposed architecture. © 2021 Scrivener Publishing LLC.
