Abstract	The notion of smart cities has revolutionised the urban environment, offering the potential for improved efficacy, sustainability, and citizens’ overall well-being. Smart cities consist of various elements, such as transportation, energy management, public safety, healthcare, and others, all of which derive advantages from the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies. Cities are currently grappling with significant urban challenges that have reached unparalleled magnitudes, mostly attributable to the incessant growth of population and the rapid expansion of metropolitan regions. It is expected that the aforementioned tendencies would persist, encompassing more escalations in pollution levels, scarcity of resources, congestion in transportation, and other associated concerns. Machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and predictive analytics are essential components in the optimisation of urban services and decision-making processes. AI serves as a fundamental cornerstone for the construction of more intelligent, robust, and inclusive societies in the realm of urban development. The ongoing progress of AI technology and its increasing incorporation into urban environments will persistently reshape the cities of tomorrow. This chapter explains the numerous attributes of smart cities.
