Abstract With cities developing into tightly connected sociotechnical systems, urban computing is expected to revolutionize urban management of structures, utilities, and assets. This survey aims to know the future trends in urban computing relative to quantum computing, AI, and other forms of computing in smart cities. AI is already crucial in urban systems as the aspects of predictive analytics and data-driven governance demonstrate. However, with the exponential processing power of quantum computing, the applications of optimization, real-time data analysis, and complex decision making in urban settings will change. Future urban applications like the self-driving car, smart grids, and digital twins are also covered in the chapter in terms of how edge computing, IoT, and 5G networks will enable them. This chapter considers some of the issues such as data privacy, ethical concerns, and the digital divide. The survey ends with the proposed future research directions on the combination of AI and quantum computing to enhance the management of smart cities for sustainable and equitable development. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
