Abstract In recent years, there has been a global trend towards the development of Smart Transport System in many global megacities. The development of such a system relies on a series ofcomprehensive yet complex programs and projects in a number of dimensions, including technologies, policies, operations, and surveillance. However, obstacles remain in the way. Some of the problems being faced include the ever-increasingurban population, traffic congestion in peak hours, pollutionand waste disposal, etc. In fact, it is highly recommendedthat Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) be used toaddress the aforementioned issues. This article conceptuallydiscusses some of the cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Vehicles, Millimeter-waveCommunications, and Big Data and how they can collaboratively boost the applications of highly efficient, humancentered, and sustainable CAVs, which will in turn drasticallyaccelerate the development of smart cities on a global basis. © 2023 ACM.
