Abstract The concept of smart cities is an emergence and essential need for the today’s world. The development of new smart cities and conversion of existing cities require a broad understanding of the things to be followed and kept in mind during transformation. Under the present chapter, the vision of the smart city is explained by discussing the variety of parameters. It has been observed that to create a smart city, the applications of state-of-art technologies are essential to achieve the desired impact without affecting the environment and sustainably resolve the energy needs. Based on the study, it has also been revealed that the awareness and attitude toward conversion is important, which are reflected in the adoption of innovative technologies and ideas.
