Abstract It is highly essential to spread awareness among the people during epidemics to reduce their severity by giving them general information regarding the epidemic diseases and predictions in smart cities about their severity, like the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) or any similar diseases. There is no proper information among the public regarding the symptoms, precautions, and treatment information on COVID-19 during its spread, which led to unnecessary panic among the public. An Android application specially tailored to provide prompt information to the public during the spread of an epidemic disease will be an efficient solution to diminish its spread. This application uses state-of-the-art technology like Firebase Cloud Messaging, Firestore, and Python Web Scraper to accomplish its goal. Thus, the proposed system has all the necessary features to create appropriate awareness among the public in smart cities during the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, thereby reducing unwanted panic, leading to a reduction in the severity of the disease. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Alex Khang, Sita Rani, and Arun Kumar Sivaraman.
