Abstract This work in progress paper explores the impact of an interactive game-based learning workshop series designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to envision a sustainable Dublin. There is a lack of knowledge about young people's perspectives on city problems, these workshops gave young people access to Minecraft Education in order to characterise the problems that young people identify in their areas and the solutions they design that are related to smart, sustainable and accessible aspects. Through a phased approach, 48 secondary school students (15-18 years old) received training about smart, sustainable and accessible cities. Then, self-selecting students were linked with an upper primary school class (114 students aged 10 to 12 years old) as mentors. They worked together to tackle a problem related to sustainability or accessibility in their local environment and together built a vision for their local area in Minecraft. This initiative aimed to forge community connections between schools and amplify the youth voice in shaping a sustainable Dublin. This study aims to answer the research question "After participation in a smart city workshop series, what are the solutions that young people in Dublin design in Minecraft Education to respond to identified problems in their area?". Preliminary Thematic Analysis suggests that primary school children may prioritise accessibility in their urban designs over smart city or sustainability aspects. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).
