Abstract Integrating Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) in smart cities can significantly improve citizens' quality of life and the overall functioning of urban areas. This study aimed to examine the use of CPS for smart city applications and to explore these systems' potential benefits, challenges, and limitations. The study utilized a comprehensive way to gather data and insights on CPS in smart cities. The major findings of the study showed that CPS has the potential to significantly improve efficiency, citizen engagement, public safety, environmental management, and decision-making in smart cities. However, the study also found that some significant challenges and limitations need to be addressed, such as privacy and security concerns, scalability, and Integration with existing systems. The findings of this study can inform future policy and decision-making related to implementing CPS in smart cities. They can provide important insights for researchers and practitioners working in related fields. © 2023 IEEE.
