Abstract Among the most significant problems with urban transportation is traffic congestion, which leads to wasteful usage of air energy and produces pollution. The lack of parking places falls into the first rank of causes of traffic congestion. Urbanization in massive amounts, due to the frequent migration of populations worldwide from rural areas to cities, is making big cities more densely populated than ever. In order to fulfill the expectations regarding smart cities, the urban infrastructure worldwide had to advance technologically. The notion of conceptualizing a Smart City has been now turn into a reality with the rise of IOT. The Smart Parking System (SPS) has transformed due to the Internet of Things. and so many other aspects of life. parking is becoming a very vital necessity in our daily lives. Managing large free parking areas is a problem in developing countries like India. The Traditional Parking Management System by Other communication modules and sensors don't serve purpose of closed as well as open parking space solutions. This work uses the technology of a smartphone application with an infrared sensor, which locates open parking areas to reduce the traffic congestion. © 2025 IEEE.
