Abstract The Internet of Things acknowledged as IoT is an epoch of heterogeneous allied devices communicating effectively to provide global solutions to their users. A smart city implementation, an IoT application, significantly emphasizes developing an Intelligent Transportation system (ITS). Whereas ITS is driven by vehicular ad-hoc networks popular as (VANETs) and is considered in current research work. The VANETs is a comprehensive wireless sensor network application thriving to provide safety and comfort to users in an environment of high mobility. This paper focuses on achieving Quality-of-service (QoS) for providing an optimum route to transfer information from one vehicular ad-hoc mobile network node to another using varied routing protocols highlighting correlation interpolated between VANET routing protocols. Further assessed the performance metrics for a realistic vehicular traffic scenario of the area around Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute Mumbai, City of India. Quality metrics parameters calculated and analyzed using a network simulator demonstrate that packet delivery ratio, goodput, along with MAC Phy overhead are vital for information exchange in a high-mobility environment with a successful data retrieval rate and reduced delay. AODV and DSR protocols indicated better performance for optimum route discovery. © 2023 IEEE.
