Abstract The application of green low-carbon Internet of Things (IoT) technology in smart cities and industrial sectors has received much attention, but research on its specific applications and effects in these two fields is relatively limited. This study explained the application of green low-carbon IoT technology in smart cities and industrial sectors through energy consumption management and energy efficiency optimization algorithms for IoT devices and sensors. Through the intelligence and optimization of IoT devices and systems, the aim is to achieve sustainable development and reduce carbon footprint. In the field of smart cities, the application of green low-carbon IoT technology in street lighting systems can effectively improve power utilization, avoid energy waste through real-Time monitoring and intelligent control, and achieve energy conservation and emission reduction. However, the limitation of this article is that it does not cover the application of green low-carbon IoT technology in other industrial sectors, and lacks in-depth case analysis and comprehensive discussion of other factors. © 2024 ACM.
